How to Start a Website – Website Hosting Design

Web Design, Web Hosting | Posted by admin
Aug 25 2010

Learning how to start a website isn’t , and a lot depends on the website hosting design packages you are interested in. Most people believe that the best way to start a website is to look for a host offering a free site. You won’t build a successful online business using a free website: there is no such thing, unless it is provided to you in order to market a specific product.

If you are trying to sell your own products or services, then you will not find a website anywhere for free – you will be able to build something looking like a website, but it won’t be a website because it won’t be connected to the internet. That costs money, and you also have to pay for your .

So let’s lose the idea that you can get a website free and then use it to build a successful online home business selling your own products or even affiliate products. You can’t. If you disagree with me, then leave now because you are going to be one of the 99% that fail to make any money online no matter how hard you try. You must have the right mindset to succeed and you must also be realistic and live in the real world.

If you want to learn how to start a website, then be prepared to pay. No matter what you read online, you won’t make money on the internet for free. It will cost you and one of the tricks of internet marketing is to keep that cost to a minimum when you can least afford it and pay more once your business is successful.

Website hosting design varies across a wide choice of hosting services, and you can pick and choose the type of service you want. However, no matter which you choose a website will cost you money, and a fully featured site fitted with everything you will need to be successful online will cost you in the region of $1000+. If you are clever you won’t have to pay that, but let’s look at what is involved in that money. I am not going to detail the cost of every item, just list them, and if you can get that lot for under $1000 you are doing well.

Let’s assume you have a product to sell (your own or somebody else’s) or a service to offer, and want to build a website to market your business and make money from it. That’s why you are in business, after all, to make money, so you will have to make more than you spend. Only around 1 out every 100 who start actually succeed in making money. They might make $50 but spend $50 doing it, so they aren’t making money. Here’s what you will need:

A web host: somebody that offers you the web space to sore your files and a means of connecting to the World Wide Web. The web is not the internet. The internet is like the telephone lines and the web comprises all the telephones you can connect to. Your host allows you to make these connections, and will charge you a monthly or annual fee. Which of the following is included depends upon the website hosting design package you choose.

A : you will need a name for your site. You hire that on an annual basis from a provider. You can’t just do it yourself because in order that you can use it, your has to be registered with the world-wide Service (DNS).

software: you can try the free software available or the expensive applications such as Dreamweaver. You get what you pay for, and something in between will be best if you want a professional-looking site. That includes an HTML editor. It’s possible to start a website using free software, but it will look like free software was used.

An Email service: a free service will be no good because won’t buy from you. You will need a pop email service with unlimited email addresses for the various parts of your business (service, sales, support, etc). A good website hosting design option will include these.

A product showroom: you have to be able to describe your products and set prices for them. Your customers want to see what you have to offer, particularly if you are selling multi products.

A payment processor: PayPal or Clickbank might do if your product fits their rules. However many people won’t touch PayPal and you need another form of processor that takes debit and credit cards. You should also offer old fashioned checks. These processors can be expensive to set up with a monthly fee.

Traffic generation: you have to get traffic to your website, so you will need good keywords. For that, you will likely need a good keyword research tool. There are free tools available, but for the kind of deep keyword research that can provide results, you might want something better.

Traffic analysis: you definitely need traffic analysis software. Without knowing what your popular web pages are and on what pages your visitors most frequently exit, you will find it difficult to make improvements to your website. You must also get some idea of how many visitors you have and how long each stays on each page.

: without good search engine optimization you will find it almost impossible to get your web pages listed. That will be a big disadvantage.

Search Engine Analysis: you need software to tell where and one which search engines your web pages are listed.

Autoresponders: you need software to answer your emails, send invoices and receipts, accept payments and deliver electronic products such as software and ebooks. They can send weekly courses, regular newsletters and even run your for you. They can also be expensive.

A : this is a must, and will offer a great deal of help in advertising your website and products and driving traffic to any page on your site of your choosing.

WEB2 Social Networking Interfaces: you will be more successful if you interface your website with the social networking sites such as Facebook, YouTube and Craigslist. You need software for that and the knowledge to use it.

You will be really lucky to start a website with all that for under a grand: twice that sum more likely. Yet that is what you will ultimately have to get. If you don’t then you might be one of those 99%. If you still think you can make it with a free website (that doesn’t offer these extras free) then you are welcome to try, but when you fail you will have lost too much time and wasted too much money.

Lucky for you, it is possible to find website hosting design options that will offer all of the above on a monthly or yearly basis for a lot less than $1,000. You have to decide how serious you are going to be in building a successful website. If you really want to know how to start a website that works, then read through that list again.

Using a Blog to Gain Rankings

Blogging | Posted by admin
Aug 19 2010

isn’t just telling people your thoughts and ideas on the Internet. is a highly successful way of improving your Search Engine rankings. Why is so successful as a method of gaining good rankings? It’s simple, Search Engines look on your website for content that’s fresh, original, relevant, popular and of a good quality. When you write a great article, post or entry that’s precisely what you add to your website on a daily basis.

Frequency is essential when it comes to creating the kind of fresh content that Search Engines love. If you’ve just got a brand new website, beautifully designed, lots of great copy, amazing products and services, you’ll probably find yourself on , perhaps even in a good ranking position. The trouble is that many businesses then leave that website alone to sell their products and services and only ever update the site for product changes. Sooner or later, and the other websites notice that your shiny website hasn’t been updated for a while, and very quickly, it drops your website in its rankings, very quickly you’re nowhere to be found!

But if your website is constantly updated by a , on a daily or weekly basis, your website will look very fresh to and the other Search Engines. Think about Wikipedia, and it’s loving relationship to ; that’s a website that’s constantly being updated and it’s constantly on the first page of the Search Engines for millions of keyword search terms.

One of the ways that determines your ranking position is by the number of other people that have created a link to your website. This is called a ‘backlink’. When lots of other people with good quality websites backlink to your website, then boosts your rank. When it comes to blogs, they are full of relevant and informative content that people would want to read to help them in their business or personal lives. So, a good quality can massively increase the number of people that suggest that others read your by providing a backlink from their site to yours.

Another way is that works on well distributed keywords throughout your content. What could be a better way of producing content that has the best possible keywords than to daily on a set of topics with lots of great keywords? Don’t forget your can also feature -friendly tags, short keyword rich tags that describe the content of your post/.

A further thing is that you can add a piece of tracking software to your that allows it to ‘Ping’. A Ping is a notification each time your is updated. Newly pinged websites get attention from ’s spiders. There is some technical Know-How required for this, but every time a spider visits your site, the site gets ranked on , so pinging is very useful to keep your site well ranked.

Something else to think about is the cost of . Compared with traditional ways to help people find your business, is an incredibly cost effective way for a business of any size to improve their online visibility.

Using a , you can increase your site’s rankings, improve your credibility and increase your online presence all at the same time. Come on, why aren’t you ?

Tired of SEO Theories and Algorithms: Try Blogging

Blogging | Posted by admin
Aug 03 2010

Most of the local business owners, who I know, still don’t have a web presence -for a combination of reasons. Many business owners are from my age group and don’t feel comfortable setting up a website. So, they pay somebody else to do it or it never gets done. There are a multitude of reasons to avoid launching your business on the web, and all of them are “lame excuses.”

As I travel around town, I get to hear all the excuses. “I’m too old,” “Our business isn’t the Internet type,” and “I don’t know HTML.” You can tell everybody else those excuses, but do you want to grow your business or not? The vast majority of small
businesses fail, and the Internet is the cheapest form of advertising available.

If haven’t launched a website or , you are delaying business marketing progress for nothing. Take a computer class, learn from your kids, or learn from your grandchildren, but start as soon as possible. Perhaps, your grandchild can earn some money teaching you how to make even more money.

Blogs are to start with, since you don’t need to have any HTML knowledge. You can also go to Blogger, and get a free . It might take you 10 to 15 minutes to set up and start posting information right away.

Some website hosts work like that too, but let’s assume you have a site of some kind. Did you know your website host might have a feature built in, at no extra charge? If you have this feature, you can easily build a commercial .

For a small business, with a website and commercial , you should be able to establish your natural search engine rankings. Sometimes, these are called “organic rankings” and you don’t have to pay a penny for them. It may take a few months or more to establish yourself, and you should make regular posts.

For optimum results, your regular posts can be daily, a few times per week, or once a week. More postings are much better and will have significant impact on your rankings. Search engines love frequent posts, such as those found in Blogs.

Instead of worrying about algorithms, and (search engine optimization) theories, go back to the basics and boost your rankings with content. Most of us have heard, “Content is King,” and it is totally true.

So what do you say about your business? Tell your established customers and prospects about your service and products. Explain what your unique selling proposition (USP) is. This is what makes you different from similar businesses in your town.

When you have new products, or are looking for feedback about new product development, a is extremely useful. Your customers and prospects can leave you feedback, so marketing research is very .

Lastly, don’t shy away from a “gold mine.” Free advertising is too valuable to ignore. Blogs are the advertising bargain of the decade and possibly, of the 21st century.

Social Bookmarking and SEO: Maximise Your Website Potential

SEO | Posted by admin
Jul 28 2010

Social bookmarking is a fairly new idea. While we can think back to the mid-to-late 90’s for something similar which may have been around then, social bookmarking didn’t really materialise until the forerunner site Delicious came onto the scene. Social bookmarking sites collect all kinds of information, such as articles and posts which are then stored, organised and sorted by their tags and degree of relevancy.

Some people have defined social bookmarking as search engine marketing with a human touch. The information is seen as relevant due to the fact that it has been provided by a human being, rather than assessed for relevancy by a robot and through search engine algorithms. As the people who interact with social bookmarking sites often allocate points to the content according to relevancy and usefulness, this human touch is re-emphasized.

Social bookmarking is widely renowned as a fantastic tool, as it directly feeds off the networking capacity of the Internet. The most popular sites have huge numbers of avid followers who are essentially creating a new trend by receiving their news on any given subject or niche online rather than through the traditional methods of old. Social bookmarking sites may be linked and an RSS feed established, creating an aggregate of news which can be delivered in a virtually effortless way.

While it is not always the case, you can build back links to your site by attaching URL’s to your content. Some social bookmarking sites initiate a “no follow” policy, which means that the operators attach tags to your links that effectively negate any advantage. This does not stop people from clicking through to your site and becoming a potentially valuable visitor, of course, but it means that you won’t gain any advantage in terms of the search relevancy ranking for your page.

If you’re savvy about your online marketing, you can use social bookmarking to great effect. Put meaningful content out there with valid and informative material, and people within the social bookmarking arena will rate it highly. Sharing of content is actively encouraged, and as a user’s network is informed of the existence of your content, the potential to go viral appears.

Make sure that your marketing message is subtle, as with any Internet marketing initiative. Blatant advertising is frowned upon, but relevant links when displayed in a soft-sell way will result in an increase in visitors. Make sure that you accurately attach your tags or keywords, to ensure that your message can be found within this vast Internet world!

There are literally hundreds of social bookmarking sites out there, and you should really make an effort to include a plug-in within your website to provide people with a way to simply and easily bookmark your content. Sites such as WordPress make this very for you. RSS feed aggregators essentially summarize blogs and content and allow users to categorize things they find of interest into one to find place.

Social bookmarking should be an essential part of an overall Internet marketing and strategy.

Congratulations your is live! Now you need to start marketing it so you’ll build a group of followers and potential customers

How do you do this? How do you go about getting your out there to be seen and known by others? How do you draw readers and keep them coming back for more?

There are many ways to get your out there and known by others, this can be challenging for some and just quite for others, if you have ever had a successful before then you know what it takes.

You’re not going to get anywhere by just setting up a and hoping that people will find it and read it, you’re not going to gain any links, nor a higher search engine ranking by just having a .

This is just a part of the huge arena that is marketing, absolutely anyone can do it, even you.

Successful marketing tip number one.

When you first create a , of course it is unheard of, no one knows anything about the unless you give them the link and show it to them, However, for a new that has never been seen, there are many ways to get it out there and known.

You just need to know how. The first thing that you can do is to allow RSS feeds be taken from your . Let other bloggers and websites publish your content if they want to.

If you tell them that you will be writing in your weekly, don’t let them down. Your readers are what makes your successful. You may not get this at the start, you’ll have few readers at the beginning, but you’ll gradually build a readership and see other people checking out your .

Perhaps you not planning on telling your readers how often you’ll post to your , that’s OK just remember to post regularly. However, think about this, if you were reading a on a weekly basis, and you expected to see the that you like to read updated at least once a week, you would be very disappointed to find out that it wasn’t.

Yes things happen and you might not always be able to post when you said you would, and that is fine let your readers know why (this builds rapport), but if you miss week after week you’ll can hurt your credibility and lose readers.

Tip number three.

While you’re working on your readership base, and trying to gain readers, you are going to find that commenting on blogs that are relevant to yours will surely help.

Find a on the same topic as your own, or perhaps a related topic and leave comments on them, you can also leave a track back to your postings so people will comment on your own .

Generating Traffic. Do I use PPC, SEO, or What?

Traffic Generation | Posted by admin
Jul 24 2010

Have you been asking yourself that question? Have you been reading eBooks and blogs to try and understand the best methods of generating traffic to your website? Have you been spending a lot of time and money trying to generate traffic with very little result?

If so, don’t feel alone. Most people who are trying to make money online can answer yes to ‘all of the above”. You can get all the advice you want by reading Blogs, eBooks, Forums, etc. Unfortunately, as soon as you think you understand it after reading one source, you go to another source and they tell you just the opposite.

All over the web you can find titles of blogs etc. with titles like; “ or Organic Traffic, which is better?” “Should you us to Generate Traffic or go with ?” “Will or Improve My ROI More?”

You know, in politics, we are supposed to have several political parties to choose from, but it seems that we only hear about Republicans and Democrats and the media helps that along by asking people if they are one or the other like no other parties even exist.

On the web, the choice you are told about is or and bloggers and writers act like they are the only two choices you have for generating traffic to your website. So it is a good analogy. In a better political system, we would have several parties to choose from. Fortunately, regardless of what you have read, we do have more than two methods of generating the traffic you need to be successful with your online business.

Web 2.0 describes the new ways that websites can be developed to make them more interactive for users, new ways that people are now accessing the web via cell phones, iPods and other handheld devices, and new ways that people are finding what they are looking for on the web.

No longer do people just use a PC or laptop to access the web. People are using other methods than search engines to find what they want. Social Bookmarking, Social Networking, Mobile Advertising, Viral Marketing, and other new methods are being adopted by successful entrepreneurs and companies to generate not only highly targeted traffic, but highly motivated traffic as well.

Very soon it will be common for a person that wants or needs to buy something to simply pull out their cell phone, access the web, find what they are looking for, and buy it, all in a few minutes. Many people are already shopping in different ways and they are using the Internet in different ways than anyone anticipated.

People are posting to Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, and other social networking websites from work, while they are at a restaurant or club, anywhere they happen to be. They are not depending on search engines to help them find what they need. The friends they are making online give them recommendations. Seriously, everyone knows word of mouth advertising has always been the best method of generating sales. Social Networking and the Interactivity of Web 2.0 keeps people connected to the web 24/7 and all they need to do to find anything they are looking for is to ask and all of those online friends will point them where they need to go.

And they will trust and buy from a website recommended by someone else 10 times as often as they will trust and buy something from a website they found through a search engine or advertisement.

Are you up to helping people find what they are are searching for on your website? Are you using any of these methods to generate highly targeted traffic? The bottom line; Are you ready to adopt new ways of driving highly targeted and highly motivated traffic to your website?

Domain Names | Posted by admin
Jul 11 2010

When you start an internet based business there are a few things that you will need initially. Once you have a website you will need to get it registered with a , the other thing you will need is a hosting company to host your website.

In this article we will talk about the importance of choosing a good for your online based business.

A is a product that carries some market value and there are entrepreneurs who actually trade in names as a full time business.

names are bought and sold all the time on the internet on auction sites and the prices of these can vary from cheap to extremely expensive. It all hinges on the perceived value of the name. If you choose your own that has not previously been used, then you can register it for less than $20 a year.

There are two points to consider when choosing your one is branding and the other is keywords.

If you wish to use your own name or the name of your business and market that as a brand then you would build your business around the name rather than around the product. For example when people hear the name they immediately associate it with the internet and a way to search for information they want.

The other way is to use keywords associated with the type of business you wish to run. If your business was selling health products or information on health issues then the keywords that you would choose would have the words health or wellbeing in them and you could choose a incorporating these words, which would help tremendously with getting listed on the search engines. This would be a big help if you are marketing in a particular niche.

When deciding on the , if you want to use keywords then the best thing to do is to write a list of all the possible keyword combination’s associated with your niche and do a keyword search to help you decide on the best ones.

Once that is done then choose a name around those words. By using this method, you are giving a very clear indication to anyone searching exactly what your business is all about.

The simplest way to choose name is to do a search. There are free sites that will give you the information and this will help you with the choice.

Another important point is to get a website with a .com extension unless the website is aimed at a particular country then rather get one with an extension that is used only for that country.

Choose a couple of to start as there is always the possibility that the one you have chosen is already taken. Have another choice also with your keywords in it, just in case.

There is always the possibility that the that you originally chose is for sale, but it is usually expensive to buy. It is far better to create a new one which will cost you a few dollars to register.

The Main Pros and Cons of Article Marketing and Pay Per Click Advertising

PPC | Posted by admin
Jul 05 2010

Today offline and online businesses are both looking for the best ways to advertise their products. Although there are many ways you can do this two continue to lead the way and they are advertising and article marketing.

In this article we’ll take a look at the pros and cons of both of these popular Internet marketing methods.

1. advertising allows you to quickly get your Internet business online. For example is the largest search engine in the world.

If you do a search for a keyword phrase you’ll see sponsored links down the right-hand side and across the top of the page. These are companies who are participating in the Adwords campaign.

They are paying by the click to give them a good placement for targeted keyword phrases. By bidding on numerous keyword phrases an Internet business can get on page 1 of the largest search engine in the world very quickly.

The downside to advertising is it can be expensive if you do not know what you are doing. The key to making this form of marketing work for you is to monitor what the traffic you are purchasing is costing you in relation to the sales you’re getting from it.

Obviously you are in business to make a profit and you cannot afford to overbid on the price of individual keyword phrases. However once you get a campaign in place, that is profitable, it becomes a hands-off form of marketing your business online.

2. Article marketing is a form of advertising online where you promote your business through a resource box in articles written and submitted to article directories online. marketing has become another form of article marketing where you promote your business through articles both in your own and through social directories.

The advantage to article marketing is there is very little cost associated with doing it. The biggest expense you will incur is writing and submitting the articles. If time is a factor you can outsource this to a ghost writer. You can also use a submission company to reach hundreds of article directories with one click.

The primary benefit to article marketing is the links you list in your resource box back to your business become archived online for future traffic. Over time this can lead to thousands of potential clicks on a daily basis that you do not pay for.

The time it takes time for it to pay you back is the main downside to article marketing. You have consistently work at it and view this as a long term investment into getting traffic back to your website.

The most successful Internet businesses today use a combination of article marketing and advertising to get quality traffic on a daily basis.
